Co-operative Housing Development Program (CHDP)

Run by CMHC, this is the largest federal investment in new co-op housing in more than 30 years, with $1.5 billion in forgivable and low-interest repayable loans. It funds the creation of new co-op housing through periodic application windows running through 2028. Projects must operate on a not-for-profit basis, including non-profit housing co-ops, community housing organizations, land trusts, and Indigenous housing co-ops. Units created must stay affordable for at least 20 years.
