Alberta Innovation Employment Grant (IEG)

This grant rewards small and medium-sized Alberta companies that spend on research and development, regardless of industry. It pays 8% on R&D spending up to your base level and an enhanced 20% on spending above your two-year average, on up to $4 million of annual R&D spending. It is claimed through the corporate tax system rather than a separate application.

What you'll need

  • Alberta Corporate Income Tax Return (AT1)
  • Schedule 29
  • Federal SR&ED claim documentation
  • Records confirming R&D was performed in Alberta

How to apply

  1. 1Confirm your firm has under $50 million in taxable capital
  2. 2Track eligible R&D expenditures that also qualify for federal SR&ED
  3. 3File Schedule 29 with your AT1 corporate return
  4. 4Wait for CRA verification of qualifying expenses
